Item C2 - Wm. Greaves & Sons (Sheffield) Set of 7 Incannel Gouges.
Featuring
the hard to find larger gouge sizes, these quality gouges has vimilar turned
rosewood handles and the “Sheaf Works” mark that Wm. Greaves and Sons used until
their dissolution about 1850. The mark continued to be used by Thomas Turton &
Sons until the early 20th Century. The working widths of these
gouges are: 5/8, ¾, 1, 1 ½, 1 7/8, and 2 ½ inches. The 2 ½” and 1 7/8” sizes
have brass ferrules, the others are equipped with steel ferrules. The blades on
these gouges have little pitting, and only minor edge chipping. The ¾ and 1
inch sizes are badly split and will need to be replaced. It is tough to find
larger gouges of this quality. Good+
