L14 -  Stratton Bros. No. 10 bb  8"machinist level

This desirable Stratton Bros. Level is of a later type, but made before Stratton manufacture went over to Goodell Pratt. This 8” size (next to the smallest) has good rosewood and brass binding that has patina, but without scratches or cleaning. It is marked with 2 patent dates 1876 and 1887, and has decorative brass trim around the level vial view, but not around the plumb port hole. The plumb vial is not on the end of the frame, and at this stage of manufacture this is scarce. With two screws holding the brass end plates, it qualifies as a type 5 level. This has not been messed with and suffers only an owners initials stamped in the top wood. There are tool box scratches in the finish of the wood, and it will clean to you fancy. Fine.
