Item P25 - Craftsman-made Core Box Plane
Core box planes
are pattern maker's tools for cutting cylindrical grooves for core box patterns.
The most familiar are the Stanley No. 56 and 57 models, but craftsman-made
examples are not unusual. This is one of those one of a kind planes, that
is embellished by fancy knob handles, both fore and aft. The plane is 8
1/2 inches long, with sides that spread to 4 inches apart at the top.
The V-shaped cutter is 5/16 inches wide and held by a secure frog and cap
arrangement. The knobs are turned from mosaics of contrasting wood, and
are replete with decorative grooves at their bases. It is a well made and
good looking plane, that should be easy to use. Good+
