Item SCR6- Fancy Envelope Knife. Ivory Blade and Baleen? Handle
This
eye catching envelope knife features an ivory blade that is probably walrus tusk
ivory, and a handle made of a smooth black keratonaceous material that, judging
from some slight insect damage, is probably bowhead whale baleen. Probably of
Alaskan Inuit origin, the tool has an especial pizzazz! The blade features a
complex “blood groove” on the top of one side and is 5 inches long to an ivory
ferrule attaching it to the conical and slightly down-curved handle. Overall
the knife is 10 ˝ inches long, and is in Fine condition.
