Item WP23 - J. Freeman (UR) ” Side Bead Molding Plane.

This beech, 9 inch side bead is marked, “J. Freeman” on the nose with an incuse mark that is bounded by a very fancy lacy border.  The plane has round chamfers and a relieved wedge.  It has the appearance of an early 1800s plane.  I can find no record of this mark in AWPIV or Goodman.  To my eye it has the appearance similar to that of some of the upstate New York makers.  The side bead is single boxed with wood that does not look like boxwood.  There is a small hang hole near the toe, and not much wear.  An owner, “SB” neatly stamped his initials on the toe.  Good+
