Item B3 - Wilson Mfg. Co. (New London, Conn) Taylor Pat. Brace.

Jeremy Taylor’s brace patent awarded on June 30, 1836 was a very early one.  Braces based on this patent were made for a long time by several Connecticut companies, and are not uncommon.  This example is a very clean one that is clearly marked by the Wilson Mfg. Company of New London.  You can read about the Wilson Mfg. Co on my brace page.  It was in business from at least 1855 and into the 1860s.  This example of Taylor’s patent is a typical one, with an iron handle with a numbered slotted brass screw in the top.  The brass ferrule under the thimble gives this one a little pizzazz.  This brace has a sweep of about 9 inches.  Good+
