Item CP6 -
Stanley No. 103 Block Plane. Type 1 (1876-1883)
This block
plane was first produced in 1876, and in its original form (which this is)
featured a rosewood or apple front knob (this one is apple) and a stylized
"Victorian" lever cap. The initial type also had a cutter marked with an 1876
patent date (which this one has). By 1883 all three of these distinctive
features had been dropped. This little dandy is in clean condition. About half
of the japanning is gone from the lever cap, but nearly all remains in the bed.
The blade is long and clean and well marked, There is no pitting on the
plane. Easily Good+.
