228 Hub Micrometer.
Another
special purpose micrometer, this is a variation of the No. 228 Starrett Hub
Micrometer listed in most later Starrett catalogues. In all of these that I
own, this mike is listed as measuring hub lengths of up to 1 inch, and being
able to fit in an aperture of only 3/4”. This example, however, measures hub
lengths from 1 to 2 inches (in 1/1000”) and fits in an aperture no larger than
1”. It may have been a special order item. It is fitted with a ratchet stop.
It has mild tarnish, and one small area of very light pitting. Good+
