Item R13 - E. C. Stearns Co. (Syracuse) No. 85 Butt Gage.
This scarce butt gage is functionally similar to the Stanley No. 95 butt
gage, but is much less commonly encountered. It features sliding bars that are
captive and cannot fall out and get lost. When the outer cutter is set for
gaging the edge of the door, the cutter on the other end gages the distance from
the back of the jamb. The other bar has a cutter for gaging the thickness of the
butt. This one has all of its shiny nickel finish. Fine.
