(unmarked) No. 77 Rosewood Mortise Gage.
Stanley’s most popular marking and mortise gage, the No. 77 was made from
1863. This example dates from between that beginning, and 1872 when the
mustache wear strip and brass shoe were introduced. For an early one, this is
in great condition, with two brass wear plates on the fence and very little wear
to the stem or fence. The moveable mortise pin is short, but all else is fine,
with just a few paint dribs to clean. Good+.
