Item RR1 - Chavoz (Germany) Precision Proportional Dividers. Marked,
“U.S.”

This
set of proportional dividers is marked, Chavoz, Germany on the Instrument on the
plush-lined fitted case, but the dividers are similar to the the Keuffel & Esser
No. 435 as was produced in the 1930s. These are 7 1/4 inches long, and are
gradated on one leg for the ratio of distances measured from on set of legs to
those at the other end. An opposite scale allows for the ratio of areas of
circles from the measured diameter at one end to that of the other. These have
a sliding movement. adjustments. The dividers are in great shape, with no
faults. The case is marked with a FSN (Federal Supply Number), indicating that
the dividers were a procurement item for US Military Forces. These numbers were
used between 1949 and 1974, after which a more complicated National Supply
Number system was used. This is a wonderful tool for scaling shop drawings up
or down. Fine.
