A true rarity these days, this premium candle wax has survived in its original packing case since its importation un the 1950s from Scotland to New York by the Mutchler Chemical Co. Its producer in Scotland was almost certainly the Christian Salvessen Co. that dominated factory whaling from the 1930s into the 1960s. This NOS wax was imported before the endangered species and marine mammal acts came into existence. It is in the form of a solid cake 6 ¼” x 4” x 1 ½' thick and weighing 1 pound. In the day this was the best and most expensive wax for candles, producing a candle that burned with a bright, smokeless flame, and defined the term “candlepower.” It comes with a copy of the original shipping label. Fine.
