Item WP13 - Hills & Winship (Springfield, MA) Astragal.

Astragal profiles are not often seen in American planes, but make a quite desirable profile for setting off larger book case and chest moldings.  This example is in the larger 6/8 inch size and is fully boxed in the “hammerhead” or dovetail style.  The maker was the partnership of Samuel Hills and and William Winship who worked together in Springfield about 1832.  The plane is in better than usual condition, with only minor edge wear, and a little staining low on the right side.  It is a nice, if uncommon, sort of plane.  Easily Good+
